Ruby is about to start Year One of big school.It's very different to Pre-primary,which in Australia is equivalent to Kindergarten in New Zealand.So,it's a huge year for her.But ruby is a very social kid,she is very take-charge,bossy,and determined.I admire her commitment to whatever she pursues (she is currently learning to play guitar:).Infact she is the one who keeps her old mum grounded!,reminds me to stick to things.She is going to be six this april!.In a way ruby has an old head on young shoulders and is quite grounded for someone who has such a creative imagination!.Her non-stop energy and ideas can be exhausting.Ruby is also sensitive,kind,affectionate and generous.My girl is happiest when she's making something to give to her friends and family.She charms the pants of everyone!.
You can't describe the mysterious bond between a mother and daughter,but it's there.Absolutely.I understand the complexities of being a female in this world i guess.Ruby may be only a child but she has always been more emotional and complex than her two brothers.Unlike her brothers,who were born barely making a squeak,roobs came out screaming and red faced and not amused!And she didn't quiet down for hours!.So funny.She is not the wall flower type and never will be.So different to me.But I accept the challenge.We have alot to teach one another.

Well,I'm abit peeved off because I accidently deleted alot of my photos off this blog.And I don't seem to be able to get them back.Luckily ,the words are still here.Oh well.
As 2012 starts to kick off I can't help but look at my three rapidly-growing children in amazement.They will be turning 7,6 and 4 this year!No longer babies.Therefore i thought i'd start this year by jotting down alittle about where my kids are at now.I'll start with the youngest,who is 3-our billy-boy:

BILLY is full of energy,
He still sleeps in OUR bed!
He has crazy-curly hair,like his dad's hair...
he does not like having his hair washed!
He is alittle afraid of insects,
He love's our cat's(we have 2).
He loves Thomas the tank engine.
He is very loving and affectionate.
He is best buddies with his sister+brother.
He is a home-body and he tends to stick close to mum+dad when wey're out and about.
He likes to play-fight,
He loves riding his scooter.
He has quite fixed fashion sense for 3,he chooses what he wants to wear.
He is tall for his age and people mistake him for being older because of this.
He likes to draw and paint.
He loves to show off to us eg singing+ dancing.
He is fun-loving and is always smiling.
He recently discovered a love of the ocean.

He soon begins Fun for fours class and daycare.

The sprinkler is a God-send!The kids have their good buddies over for the weekend.The weather is hot but not too hot...yet.The new trampoline is being much used and enjoyed(santa delivered it early;).Although not my favorite season,I can see the perks.

We had some lovely rain this afternoon,great after the heat!.And out came ALOT of snails so what does the three year old do?He collects them ofcourse.Billy has been fascinated by them.He's feeding them left over lettuce as i write.So cute.

Ruby has a snail race at school tommorow so we have more snail fun to look forward to.

We celebrated Nine-years marriage on the 15th.Wow!how time flys when your having fun.Time has just made me appreciate my man more for the kindred spirit that he is.His strength,his never-quit attitude,his goofy sense of humour,his loyalty to his family and his unflappable GOODNESS and integrity...that's what the man I wake up to everyday is to me.

Oh and this cake was YUMMO!Especially that white icing,the kids helped me bake it.

I don't really remember having any teachers that really inspired me as a child.Fortuately that is not the case for my children.To them,Mr jacovich,their music teacher,is like a God!.ALL the kids adore this man.Mr Jacovich rocks!He is just so passionate in how he teaches,He truly lives his passion-music.He is inspiring in his enthusiasm.He is funny and approachable.And,most importantly,he inspires my kids to enjoy singing and playing instruments.Mr Jacovich is a special human being,behind his long hair and corduroy coat and his fondness for playing Deep Purple loud so the whole school hears,he is respected amongst students and parents alike.

Today he lined up a group of year one's and put on an impromptu concert,the little one's singing Beatles songs,for all us parents waiting.Wow!So amazing.

Here is my youngest child,practising blowing bubbles at his first ever swimming lessons last saturday.He didn't like having his face submerged in water at all!But he did like singing songs in the water and splashing about.His first major challenge in his young life.I forget all these lessons of childhood.That's why I see parenthood as a blessing and adventure because we get to see "it"all again through their eyes,including the tough bit's long since stored away in my memory bank.Hey,I'm old!!

My oldest child also faced his own challenge this morning at school assembly.He had to step up to the microphone infront of the entire school,barely reaching the microphone,and talk about his class activity.He spoke clearly and did so well.I saw last night in him signs of nerves about it...but today he shone.

And my middle child?she is bravely getting her confidence up at swimming,by getting her face in the water...scary,when your just 5.

How lucky I am to be here right now,in this moment,to watch my children learn and grow.

Billy had his first swimming lesson today.He was having fun untill the swimming instructer dunked his head,and then he didn't want to know!.but amongst the tears there were smiles and giggles,especially they sung and played games in the water.Billy loves to sing.Hopefully he will learn to love swimming too?.

The Inbetweens...

It's gotten cold here,suddenly!as it seems to do here in Perth...goes from hot to cold with barely an inbetween.I'm loving the change.The slower pace of the shorter day's,the joy of cuddling up with my little family under a quilt and just being together,keeping warm.Ahh,i'm so grateful for the simple joys that my husband and children give me.The kids just keep growing at an alarming speed!.They are all doing swimming lessons now.They are all so energetic,keeping up with them is a challenge and I do find it difficult to juggle all their wants and needs sometimes but,tell me a parent that doesn't.They are also creative and funny and as crazy as their old mum.
So life is grand in our loud,sometimes chaotic,but ultimately happy home.

Amongst the loud,there are those quiet,blissful moments when one little person seeks their mama out for a little cuddle.Happiness!.

I will be back with lots of photos.Our camera is being repaired.

The Royal Wedding.

I admit I am a sucker for a royal wedding.And this one was fabulous!How beautiful did kate middleton look?That wedding gown was divine!I watched the wedding coverage on TV from start to finish(amongst the rest of the 2 billion other viewers around the globe!).It made me happy.This troubled world of our's needed a day of cheer and tradition,and maybe we could,for a little while atleast,believe in fairy tales.My 5-year-old daughter sat cuddled up beside me as we watched...asking"when's the princess come on mummy?".I smiled.I was only a year older than her when I too sat infront of the tele and watched Diana marry prince Charles.I remember my excitement.I can't wait for prince William + Princess Catherine to become king + Queen.I'm such a nerd!.

Lastly,jasper's decorated egg.We used up left over gift wrap from recent birthdays but billy kept eating all the eggs!So,alas,we were left with one.When the kids get abit older we can try blowing out the eggs and decorating but right now...well,it just would not work.We have had a lovely long easter break.Made longer still by Anzac day today so,therefore, another public holiday tommorow!.

To mark Anzac day we went along to the dawn service at our local war memorial.It was wonderful to see how many young people were there,including our own three young children.We are keeping the ANZAC spirit alive, so too will they,our children.

They shall not grow old,as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them,nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun,and in the morning,
We WILL remember them.

My first born turned six years old on the 7th april.I was up untill midnight baking cupcakes all so he could take them into class on his birthday.That was his request.Well,that and the game UNO.He was so excited weeks before his birthday!!Gee,to have that sort of enthusiasm again aye?.
Jasper recieved some wonderful gifts from family.Thanks everyone.Our boy had a great day.We now have a 6-year-old boy.Soooo exciting.We want to buy him a world map or globe because he loves geography and can draw accurately the map of australia,NZ + SE asia!He also draws and names planets in the solar system.It is so fun learning all this stuff again through the eyes,ears and heart of our six year old....I just love saying that...SIX-YEARS-OLD.Sigh.

Cromwell...Then+Now

This is the town of Cromwell.Pop:3.5 ooo-ish.Located between Queenstown,Wanaka and Alexandra in the central otago region of the south Island in New Zealand.It is the furthest town from the sea in all NZ,which is saying alot as we are a small island(S) in the the South pacific and are never THAT far from the sea.Cromwell is also the town I was born in.The above photo is how Cromwell looked in the Seventies when I was born,before the Clutha Dam was created,flooding the Clutha+Kawarah rivers and creating what is today Lake Dunstan...The photo at the very top is how the town looks today.How it looked when we wed here and had our two oldest children here.Cromwell is a special place.It has a pull that is irresistable,ask my sister-in-law who upon visiting from South africa met and married a local!They still Live here with their little boy.Cromwell is Home.That's why in august this year we head back there to live.Permanently!We are going to be Country Bumpkins again.Hooray.

Well,here we are motoring to the end of another year(I'm convinced every year goes a little faster the older I get!?).I'm 36 next march so excuse me for freaking out abit!!,how is that possible when i still feel 25..ish??.Anyway,so begins the end-of-year School events.Last Tuesday(on the hottest day we have had this season)jasper's pre-primary class performed a song for the rest of the school and the parents.It was sooo cute!They sung "The Lion sleeps tonight".complete with lion masks.they performed really well,i mean,these are little five-year-olds!!They were so brave to sing to the whole school.It was delightful to watch and I was a very proud mummy.

Life just keeps keeping on.jasper is playing soccer in the weekends and is loving it.Billy celebrated his second birthday on the 2 august,he loved his train cake and we went and had a picnic.We have planted a small garden in an unused corner of our back section,it is african-inspired!we painted tyres in bright zebra,leopard + giraffe patterns.The kids were very involved.It will be fun for them to grow there own tomatoes and strawberries when the weather warms up.
The kids are excited about the upcoming vist from their gran+grandad,who arrive from Southafrica at the end of this month.

While i'm glad they are over,we did have fun on the recent school holidays...lots of playing at the park,meeting friends,baking and making playdough and even a slumber party--that went relatively smoothly except for one little person who wanted to go home at midnight--and while i did get sick of hearing"I'm Bored!!"I did enjoy not having to make school lunches every morning!
Now they are back at school/kindy and into the swing of term 3 and i have one small,curly haired toddler to toilet train and try to convince to sleep in HIS OWN bed.Wish me luck.

My "babies"are growing so fast.They went to their first junior school disco last weekend.It was fun!Jas just never stopped!he circled the room and inbetween roaming would hit the floor to do breakdancing!And he's good too!his dad and I were in hysterics.Our darling girl was abit more shy.She was so happy when she found her little friend Saskia and the two danced(or jumped up and down,holding hands ofcourse!).Billy just danced with whoever payed attention to him!!.
Jasper say's he wants to be a soccor player and an artist when he grows up.Cool.Ruby?A ballerina.Or princess...sigh.I Love them all so much.I just want to hold on tight to there sweetness and innocence.That's why I write this blog.Because it all goes by so quick.My sunshine boy will be two soon...he refuses to sleep in his cot now and we are transitioning him to a bed.And toilet traing has begun,for the last time!!Yeeha!.Changes,changes.It's all good.
Jassies school report/work folder came home today.His teacher's comments read:JASPER IS A QUIET,WELL MANNERED BOY WHO IS PROGRESSING WELL THIS SEMESTER.NEXT SEMESTER I WOULD LIKE TO SEE JASPER WORK ON HIS COMPREHENSION OF BOTH INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN TO HIM AND OF STORIES READ TO HIM.JASPER FINDS IT HARD TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS IF TOO MANY ARE GIVEN AT ONCE.
I am proud of my boy.He Loves school and learning and is doing well.

Ruby is loving going to kindy twice a week.This afternoon was mummy's vist time and it was so much fun to see just what my darling middle child gets up to at kindy.She is so softly-spoken to her teachers but is the total opposite at home?.It was nice,even if I did feel a giant in her 4-year-old size classroom!.Ruby enjoyed having me there and each child had made their mums a princess crown.Too sweet.The kindy mums are a friendly bunch.There is not quite the same communication between pre-primary parents.(Jasper's year)Both the kids are making so many friends.They all hold hands and the girls hug oneanother and try to kiss the boys(YES,even my daughter!!).They are learning about their world and how it operates.Jasper is learning to write(He came out with a new word this morning:"Go",he can also write "My" and his name.Ruby is learning to write her name.Jasper begins dance class tommorow at school(part of the curriculum).I wish I could be there for that!He loves to dance.They are going to have an end of term social to show off what they have learnt!!Lovely!.

This is a GOOD time of year.It always brings out the creative in me and i just go overboard on christmas decorating!But,how can i not!?It's fun!.The christmas tree is up.I've taken out every candle i own and we have been lighting them and saying our little wishes,prayers and poems for advent.The nativity scene is set up.Christmas lights go up tonight.The kids saw santa in the weekend at the christmas parade in the city and are only too aware he is coming again in what?,TWO and abit weeks!?.

Jasper.My big boy.He spends his days asking why and How?What does "Hilarious" mean mum?and then,five minutes later,what does "Invisable mean .He has a best friend called Ella,though i don't know for how much longer as he has just learnt that girls are yukky!And girls are banned from his room.He is very adoring of his dad at the moment and thinks everything davie does is wonderful eg "wow,great driving dad!"hehee.Dave is making the most of it as we reckon before long it will be a case of:"dad is sooo uncool"...sigh.
He likes riding his skateboard and is asking about a bike now.He loves Transformers!.He has just had his first trip back to Newzealand since leaving his place of birth at just 18-months-old.He loved it!,especially playing with his cousin baxter(6 yrs old),who he would run around with and shoot things with their "guns"(actually half a hockey stick).It was touching to see them together.But,i think our young traveller is OVER flying now,the day after getting back to perth he tells me "mum,no more airplanes!".But,mum's already looking at cheap flights to bali,or melbourne....

Squirt,it is magical watching you grow up.

I am having real problems with my computer,have recently switched to wireless(sux!),so i will post some pics later on(hopefully).
